Hello dear reader! For many years I have been watching novice photographers who study in photo schools, in various courses and intensives, and can’t learn anything at all.
I myself was repeatedly approached by such people with a request to teach them how to photograph after graduating from the photography school. And I undertook to teach such people. Now, if I undertake to teach someone, it is only after a trial lesson. At this lesson, I understand whether I can teach this person something or whether he is hopeless for me. I am writing about myself. Maybe there is a teacher who can teach. But I pass. Your nerves and reputation are more expensive.
This note does not encourage you to study in schools or boycott them. Just my thoughts, backed up by experience. You draw conclusions.
Is it possible to become a photographer after studying at a photography school?
Yes and no. Why? Photography is a creative activity. And if you are a creative person, then yes - you can study at a photography school, but you don’t really need it. You can already learn all the basics of photography. You can learn a lot without teachers. Many moments you most likely will feel intuitively. The school will only speed up the process and if you want to learn everything faster, then you can go to study.
But that's not what they go to school for. They go to school to quickly learn how to shoot and start making money. This has already been verified. There are exceptions, but they are extremely rare. It's just that not everyone admits it. Many try to hide behind the screen of creativity, but it's all useless. If you do not have a creative spark, then you do not need to learn to go. Photography school won't teach you anything, because photography is not for you.

There are concepts of the basics of photography. It is a set of rules and guidelines for a photographer. And this can be taught to anyone. But it is important to understand that a good photographer, having learned the basics, begins to experiment, break the rules, grow creatively. This is impossible to teach.
Therefore, there are thousands of mediocre photographers who shoot their worthless photo shoots for a penny just for the sake of money. There is no mention of any creativity.
By the way, on Zen there are several quite popular authors who have found themselves in writing articles, and not in photography. They could not realize themselves in photography and found another way out. teach people here. And get paid for it. Sometimes big money. It is a pity, of course, that these authors do not have a developed sense of shame, because both works and articles cannot stand any criticism and deserve one thing - removal. However, people are reading.
The resourcefulness of businessmen
The funny thing is that many students, having studied at a photography school, consider themselves masters. And in their social networks are loudly ringing about personal trainings, master classes and other training courses. It's funny and sad.
It is funny to watch from the outside how yesterday's student quickly became a master and began to teach others. And it’s sad that, firstly, people turn to him in the hope of learning something, and, secondly, it’s not clear how they don’t burn with shame with their training programs. A photographer who could not realize himself in the profession becomes a teacher - this is a circus, but a fact.
Solution
At the beginning, I said that I myself sometimes teach people, but only after a preliminary lesson. And what about those who are not a creative person, but really want to learn? There are some. I always advise to keep learning on your own.
Learn and post your photos until people start to like them on profile sites. And when your work begins to receive a positive response, then you can think about the next step in photography.
But, as a rule, this does not happen. As cruel as it sounds, photography is not for everyone. And not because of the cost of technology. You can start with cheap BU equipment. The main spark. If you don't have one, look elsewhere for yourself. Don't waste your time on photography.
If you still decide to go to study at a photography school, then pick it up slowly. Go to a consultation, chat with teachers and look at their portfolio. Any teacher should have a good portfolio - he is a professional. Good luck and subscribe to my channel!
